P3/M1/D1: Your team will plan for a new talk and music breakfast radio programme including:


GROUP PRESENTATION

a) intended radio station /broadcaster 
Come up with a name and tagline for your radio station Write a 50-100 word mission statement for the station 

b) target audience 
Who is the target audience, what age group is the new revamped BBC Cambridgeshire show aimed at. Write a description of who it's aimed at and why.

Conduct video vox pop interviews with your target audience to identify their needs. You need to record proper sound with an additional microphone ( you may need sound for sweepers) 

c) content plan 
Outline a detailed content plan to include all of the elements in the brief:
  • Show name and synopsis (50 word outline of show) 
  • Presenters (here is a great example)
  • Medium ( breakfast show)
  • Genre (Music and talk)
  • Music plan with 20 songs in a sample playlist 
  • Sample ideas for guests/interviews/ phone-ins/competitions/ news/weather/travel reports etc
  • Key influences (DJ presenting style)
  • Unique selling points 
  • Catch phrases/hooks/taglines 
  • Sample station sweepers and jingles (Audio branding segue for station)
  • Budget & funding opportunities 

SUB GROUP TASKS

d) running order 
Live Team (Producer and presenter) make a detailed running order (to the second) of your 10 minutes of live radio.  

e) script 

  • Script for Jingles and sweepers (Live Team)
  • Detailed script for news bulletin (News Team)
  • Scripted elements for package (draft before recording package - update after) (Package Team)
  • Scripted elements and cues and content notes for main presenter (Live Team)


f ) production schedule 
Gant chart/timeline for production. Detailed production schedule with launch date.

Include a contingency plan that offer viable alternatives to proposed activities. (ALL)

g) relevant legal and/or ethical issues 
 Release forms (ALL)
 Content disclaimers (Producer)
 Information on Radio play and royalties (Producer) 

Take a look at the Ofcom broadcast codes and start to pick out 3 for each Legal and Ethical issues

Main areas to speak about could be Copyright, Data Protection act (Legislations), Discrimination, Defamation of character, Ethical matters on the radio.



h) proposed scheduling time 
Show must cover 7.58-8.08am (Could be weekday or weekend) 
Times and dates of show broadcast - to be agreed with teacher.  


Distinction tasks 

Current Trends 
  • Justify ideas in relation to current trends in UK radio. Chart music and artist that are either trending on social media or have recent shows and albums coming up will have majority of air time, played multiple times through out the day
    Be specific on artist, game content, news (this would be news discussed on a breakfast show by the host i.e social media news, celebrities etc.)


Budget and possible funding 

- Discuss and break down the budget for your breakfast show including industry standard budgets and your budget.

- Write up equipment rental list and costs, Room hire, editors, settings

- Budget comes from taxpayers onto the BBC trust.
